Italy's Lake Como is a perfect holiday golf resort. But as well as two stunning golf courses within easy strike of Como and Milan there is much more to do than simply golf. That is why Sylvester Stallone, Madonna and George Clooney all have holiday homes there.
People have been visiting the lake, shaped like an inverted ‘Y’ amidst the mountains, since Roman times when the town of Como on the southern shore was an important trading destination between the Po valley in the south and the Rhine valley to the North. Its clean air, stunning scenery and varied wildlife has more than maintained its popularity as has the comfort of its hotels.
English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley wrote to a friend whilst visiting in 1818, ‘The lake exceeds anything I ever beheld in beauty.’ It was at the start of the 20th century that some English visitors to the small town of Menaggio decided that, amidst all this rich beauty, there ought to be somewhere to play golf.
